Golf Ontario – LAKEFIELD— The field is set for the final round of the Investors Group Ontario Women’s Senior and Mid-Amateur Championship. The event, run by Golf Ontario, completed its second round on June 28 from Wildfire Golf Club in Lakefield. Leading the way in both championships is Thornhill’s Judith Kyrinis who will look to make it back-to-back titles with a win on Thursday.

Kyrinis, from The Thornhill Club, entered the day with a share of the lead at one-under. She carded an even par (73) second round to remain one-under for the tournament (72-73-145).

Sitting in second is first-round co-leader Mississauga’s Debbie Court. Court, from the Toronto Golf Club, shot a four-over (77) during the second day and is now three-over (72-77-149) for the tournament.

Third spot belongs to St. Thomas’ Mary Ann Hayward. The 14 time mid-amateur and four-time senior champion was five-over (78) during the round. That brings Hayward, St. Thomas Golf & Country Club, to six-over (74-78-152) for the championship.

In fourth is Etobicoke’s Marion Reid. Reid, from Islington Golf Club, followed up her opening round of two-over (75) with a five-over (78) and is now seven-over (75-78-153) for the tournament.

Rounding out the top five is another former Ontario Senior Women’s Champion, Amherstburg’s Cheryll Damphouse. Damphouse, from Kingsville Golf & Country Club, was three-over (76) on the day to go along with her seven-over (80) opening round. She is now at 10-over (80-76-156).

All of the players in the top five are eligible for both the Ontario Women’s Senior and Mid-Amateur titles.

After the round, the field was cut to the lowest 54 scores and ties. In addition, for any mid-amateur only eligible players who made the cut, an extra spot was made available for a player in the senior event. The cut was set at 48-over (194) and a total of 63 players advanced to the final round.   

The final round begins tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. with the final group set to tee off at 10:50 a.m. As always, admission for spectators is free. The Investors Group Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship has been contested annually since 1989 and features the province’s best female amateurs over 25. Past champions of the event include: Gayle Borthwick, Terrill Samuel, Stefani Markovich and Mary Ann Hayward who has captured the trophy 14 times.

The Investors Group Ontario Senior Women’s Amateur Championship has been contested annually since 1962 and features the province’s best female amateurs age 50 and over.
