Freestyle Canada – Canadians Strike the Podium at Beida Lake Aerials World Cup Team Event

Beida Lake, China, December 18, 2016 – The Canadian Aerials Team persevered through two days of aerials competition to find itself on the podium in Sunday’s World Cup Aerials Team Event.

The team’s success was sparked by a strong performance during Saturday’s individual event by Catrine Lavallée, who finished 7th throughout the day’s competition. This marked a great start to the season for Catrine, who attained a new personal best on the World Cup circuit. Being relatively new to the circuit, she’s soaking in every ounce of intel and experience, and will be a fierce contender in World Cups to come.

‘’It’s my best result in a World Cup competition ever. I don’t have much experience on the World Cup circuit, so I’m extremely happy. Conditions were a little more consistent throughout the women’s heats. I executed a lay full, which is a manoeuvre I’ve mastered, and allowed me to finish 11th during the qualifying round. In the final, I perfected the same manoeuvre, and landed in 7th place. ‘’ explained Catrine Lavallée.

As the team regrouped and refocused for Sunday’s instalment of the World Cup Team Event, it needed a few strong performances from some key athletes. Lewis Irving took charge, and managed to rebound from Saturday’s performance, as he finished 7th during Sunday’s qualifying.

‘’My plan was to hit the reset button, focus on the good days of training that we had. Yesterday, I executed a full double full full for the first time in individual competition, then again in the team event today with Travis and Catrine. That made me extremely happy, it was the goal here in China to execute those manoeuvres in competition.’’

The Canadian trio, which consisted of Catrine Lavallée, Travis Gerrits and Lewis Irving, accumulated a total of 243.94 points to finish in second place. The Russian squad finished first and the Australians rounded out the podium in third.
