DRU MARSHALL—PAST CAAWS CHAIR—NAMED ONE OF CANADA’S MOST POWERFUL WOMEN BY WXN
CAAWS – CAAWS is thrilled to congratulate Dru Marshall on receiving a 2016 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award from the Women’s Executive Network.
Ottawa, November 23, 2016 – CAAWS congratulates former CAAWS Chair Dru Marshall on receiving a Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award from the Women’s Executive Network’s (WXN) in recognition of her distinguished career in sport and academia. As the current Provost and Vice-President at the University of Calgary, Dru Marshall is one of Canada’s most recognized and respected experts in exercise physiology. Dru is also highly regarded for her work in sport and physical activity, specifically in her coaching and research. She was a coach at the highest level of amateur sport in Canada in the sport of field hockey, and has been the recipient of several “Coach of the Year” awards throughout her career.
Throughout her career, Dru has been champion for girls’ and women’s equitable participation and leadership across the sport and physical activity system. “We congratulate Dru on this award and thank her for her continued support of CAAWS to educate, empower and advocate for equity for women and sport,” CAAWS Chair Dr. Sandip Lalli stated. “Dru’s impact reaches throughout the Canadian sport system. We are delighted to see her recognized for this remarkable leadership by the WXN.”
CAAWS CEO Allison Sandmeyer-Graves and board members Dr. Cheri Bradish and Leanne Nicolle will be attending in support of Dru as she receives her award at the WXN Top 100 Awards Gala on Thursday, November 24 in Toronto.
The WXN’s Most Powerful Women List was launched in 2003 in order to shine a light on the accomplishments of professional women across Canada. Each year, it recognizes these leaders and inspires future generations to push their boundaries to achieve their goals. Current CAAWS board member Nathalie Cook was a recipient of a WXN Top 100 Award in 2015.
The Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to creating an equitable sport and physical activity system in which girls and women are actively engaged as participants and leaders. CAAWS has worked in close cooperation with government and non-government organizations on activities and initiatives that advocate for positive change for girls and women in sport and physical activity.
