Golf Ontario – LAKEFIELD— The opening round of Golf Ontario’s Investors Group Women’s Senior and Mid-Amateur Championship is in the books and a familiar name finds herself with a share of the lead.

Defending Senior Women’s Champion, Thornhill’s Judith Kyrinis, shot an opening round of one-under (72), June 27 at Wildfire Golf Club, and holds top spot along with Mississauga’s Debbie Court.  Kyrinis, from The Thornhill Club, and Court, Toronto Golf Club, also both share the lead in the Mid-Amateur Championship.

Sitting in third spot in both championships is St. Thomas’ Mary Ann Hayward. Hayward, from the St. Thomas Golf & Country Club, is a multiple-time champion of both the Ontario Senior and Mid-Amateur Championships. She finished the round one-over (74).

Fourth belongs to Etobicoke’s Marion Reid. Reid, from Islington Golf Club, carded a two-over (75). Rounding out the top five is St. Catharines’ Chris Critelli. Critelli, from St. Catharines Golf & Country Club, was three-over (76) on the round.

About the Investors Group Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship

The Investors Group Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship has been contested annually since 1989 and features the province’s best female amateurs over 25. Past champions of the event include: Gayle Borthwick, Terrill Samuel, Stefani Markovich and Mary Ann Hayward who has captured the trophy 14 times.

The Investors Group Ontario Senior Women’s Amateur Championship has been contested annually since 1962 and features the province’s best female amateurs age 50 and over. Past champions of the event include: Ada Mackenzie, Kay Helleur, Gayle Borthwick, Mary Ann Hayward and World Golf Hall of Fame member Marlene Stewart Streit.
