CCAA Men’s Basketball Nationals heading to Montmorency
CCAA – Collège Montmorency of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) has been awarded the 2018 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship.
The bid was approved today in Ottawa during the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s annual winter board meeting. The Championship will be held in Laval, QC, March 14-17, 2018.
“Montmorency has a rich basketball history and year after year, they produce National contenders,” said Jeff Harris, CCAA Men’s Basketball Convenor. “The time has finally come for Momo to leave their mark on CCAA history by hosting this elite competition.”
Collège Montmorency’s impressive basketball resume includes several provincial and national championship titles. In fact, they are the only institution in Canada to win both the Men’s and Women’s National Championships in the same year, a feat they accomplished in 2006.
The Nomades have medaled four times at CCAA Men’s Basketball Nationals, including National Championships in 2006 and 1996. The Women’s Program has captured nine National crowns.
Montmorency has attended various CCAA National Championships and they have twice hosted the Quebec Games (1992, 2009), which enabled more than 4,000 students to experience an exciting sports event at Montmorency.
In March 2014, the Nomades hosted the RSEQ Division 1 basketball provincial championship.
“While this is Montmorency’s first CCAA Nationals as hosts, the host committee is experienced and we are looking forward to a great National Championship,” said Harris.
The 2017 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship will be hosted by Holland College in Charlottetown, PE, March 15-18.
