Call-out for Communities to Host 2017/18 series of BC Indigenous Provincial Athlete Development Camps
I∙SPARC – The 2017/18 Host Application Process has been launched for First Nations, Métis Chartered Communities, Friendship Centres, and Indigenous organizations to apply to host event(s) within the 2017/18 series of BC Indigenous Provincial Athlete Development Camps. Successful community hosts will be awarded a Hosting Grant to help offset the majority, if not all, of the event operating costs. Communities awarded a Provincial Camp will work in partnership with I·SPARC’s Provincial Coordinator, Performance Sport, and the Provincial Sport Committee in the delivery of the event. The Development Camps are to be held primarily in the Fall/Winter of 2017/18 in a variety of communities across British Columbia.
These events have been strategically established to support Indigenous athlete development in sports featured in the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG). The 2017/18 season will support provincial development camps in the following sports and due to the 2017 Team BC NAIG program, championships will not be featured this year.
• 3-D Archery
• Athletics (Track & Field)
• Rifle Shooting
The BC Indigenous Provincial Athlete Development Camps are an important component of I∙SPARC’s Provincial Strategy for Indigenous Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity. The events provide a unique opportunity for Indigenous athletes and coaches from First Nations, Métis Chartered Communities and Friendship Centres throughout the province to gather and compete in events that promote sport excellence while celebrating cultural unity and pride.
Committed to establishing a consistent, comprehensive Indigenous Team BC program that results in increased participation and better preparation, I∙SPARC’s Provincial Sport Committees maintain oversight of the Provincial Development Camps.
To apply to host an event, please refer to the Indigenous Provincial Athlete Development Camps 2017/18 Host Application forms. The deadline to submit applications is 4:00 pm (PST), Friday, September 8, 2017.
