Athletics NS – Halifax, NS – With the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships fast approaching in August in Brandon, Manitoba, athletes across the province will soon be running, throwing and jumping their way to achieve team standards to be named to the team. The NS/NU Legion Command and Athletics Nova Scotia has been busy compiling the best coaching and support staff possible to help 38 athletes be the best they can be at the Championships this year.

Jonathan Doucette, the Manager of Coaching and Technical Development at Athletics NS has been selected as the head coach for the team and is eager for the job. “I am honored to have been named as Head Coach of the 2017 NS/NU Legion Team. The 2017 staff includes a wealth of track and field experience and I looking forward to working with them to create an environment where athletes have the opportunity to grow as athletes and more importantly, as people.  The Legion program has played an incredible role within our sport in Canada and the 2017 staff is pleased to help carry on the great history of this program”

This year’s Midget Youth team coaching staff is composed of three coaches with a wide variety of training and experienced backgrounds to create a well-rounded staff to support the needs of the athletes. The coaching staff includes;

Head Coach – Jonathan Doucette (Halifax)

Team Coach – Lauren Duke (Lakeview)

Team Coach – Nathan Burris (Truro)

Supporting the coaches and athletes will be a team of four.   These individual bring a range of knowledge and experience and all are enthusiastic to be joining the 2017 team.   This support staff includes:

Manager/Chaperone – Nate-Janine Williams (Dartmouth)

Chaperone – Ryan Elmore (Middleton)

Chaperone – Brenda Morrison (Sydney River)

Chaperone – Cheryl Corbin (Merigomish)

The Legion Team Trials will be held in conjunction with the Athletics NS Outdoor Track and Field Provincials July 8 and 9 at Beazley Field in Dartmouth.
