Alberta Soccer Association – (Sherwood Park) – The Servus Tier I Championships begin today at soccer fields throughout Sherwood Park.

Running until Sunday, the event will see 48 of Alberta’s best teams competing in 84 games across the following categories: U14, U15, U16, and U17 for both males and females.

The Tier I Provincial Competition represents the pinnacle of youth soccer in our province, with many of Alberta’s best clubs, players, and coaches vying for the Championship Title in their respective age category. Winners of the U15 and U17 competitions will face the champions from other provinces at Canada Soccer’s National Championships in Calgary, AB and Fredericton, NB from October 4-9th.

“The Tier I to National competition brings together many of the best youth teams in Alberta, giving skilled coaches and talented players an opportunity to showcase their abilities,” said Richard Adams, Alberta Soccer Executive Director. “Ultimately, the hope is to claim a spot at Nationals and we wish each team the best of luck in this endeavor.”

Sherwood Park District Soccer Association, who is hosting the signature event, will welcome the teams from Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, St. Albert, and Sherwood Park.

“The Sherwood Park District Soccer Association (SPDSA) would like to thank the Alberta Soccer Association for the opportunity to host the 2017 Tier 1 Provincials. We are excited to take in the top class display of the beautiful game throughout the Provincial weekend. Congratulations to all the teams on a great season and earning the chance to represent your district. We would like to wish you the best of luck this weekend.”

Media from across the province are welcome to cover the Tier I and Tier I to Nationals Competitions all weekend.
