Football Canada – Lethbridge, AB (July 6, 2017) – Host Alberta is the only team that is only 2-0 after play at the under-16 Western Challenge. 

On Wednesday night at University of Lethbridge Community Stadium, the team earned a 38-0 shutout victory over Manitoba.

Meanwhile, Saskatchewan got their first win of the tournament with a 25-0 win over British Columbia.

Both Manitoba and Saskatchewan stand at 1-1 and British Columbia is 0-2 after Wednesday night’s games.

The tournament concludes on Saturday July 8th when Saskatchewan faces Manitoba at 11:00pm MT/1:00pm ET. Alberta and British Columbia are in the second games that day at 2:00pm MT/4:00pm ET.

SASKATCHEWAN 25, BRITISH COLUMBIA 0

The first half was a very low scoring affair as no touchdowns were scored by either team due to stellar defensive games from both sides.

However, Saskatchewan managed to get a single and Jackson Milton-Owens’ 18 yard field goal gave the team a 4-0 lead over Manitoba at halftime.

Saskatchewan quarterback Noah Pelletier connected with Drake Douglas for a 3 yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.

Ryker Frank sprinted down the field for a 90 yard touchdown in the final frame of the game. With 1:55 left in the game Pelletier snuck into the end zone for a one yard major to round out the scoring.

Offensive Players of the Game were Xavier Cole (British Columbia) and Frank (Saskatchewan). Additionally, the Defensive Players of the Game were Phoenix Moller (British Columbia) and Hayden Lorenz (Saskatchewan).

ALBERTA 38, MANITOBA 0

Quarterback Eli Hetlinger found chemistry with Jaxon Hume on Wednesday as they connected three times for touchdown receptions in the first half for host Alberta.

Jaden Casten also tallied a 79 yard rushing major while Charlie DeLand added 17 and 16 yard field goals.

At halftime,  Alberta led Manitoba 31-0.

Matthew Morn had the only other score of the game when he rushed into the end zone for a 23 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Offensive Players of the Game were Carter Kutzan (Manitoba) and Hume (Alberta).  Furthermore, Defensive Players of the Game were Isaac Dokken (Manitoba) and Kosta Zannis (Alberta).
