Sail Canada to support 17 up-and-coming athletes at various World Championships
Kingston, July 12, 2022 – Sail Canada announced today that 17 sailors have been selected to receive support for various upcoming World Championships that will take place this year, a new initiative that is related to the 2022 Identified Athlete Program.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the athletes have been selected based on the application they sent to Sail Canada over the past months following the launch of the 2022 Identified Athlete Program. Each of them will take part in a pre-World Championships camp, be coached at the selected event by the same representative, and will receive financial support to attend these events.
“Sail Canada is glad, as part of our strategic plan, to be able to support our next generation of sailors through the implementation of our Identified Athlete Program,” said Sail Canada High Performance Director Mike Milner. “We hope that the selected athletes, as part of the program, will learn from the coaches and other athletes, grow with their participation in major international field competitions and, most of all, have fun while sailing with this pat in the back from Sail Canada.”
Sail Canada would like to thank Sport Canada, Own the Podium, the Provincial Sailing Associations, Helly Hansen and Fogh Marine as supporters of the Identified Athlete Program.
