SERIES OF EVENTS PLANNED TO SHOWCASE THAT #FOOTBALLISOURS

OTTAWA – Football Canada is pleased to release the list of events for the first Football Weekend in Canada, which will run from Friday, Oct. 15 to Sunday, Oct. 17. The series of events will tell the story of football in this country, running from coast to coast to coast.

“Football means many things to many people across Canada,” said Jim Mullin, Football Canada president.

“In the midst of a challenging time, we wanted to create a digital event where Canada can take in stories, understand the diversity, challenges and triumphs of our participants, and have a national discussion on what the sport we love looks like today and in the future.”  

The events set for the weekend include the following:

Football Canada Film Shorts Festival: Film study is an integral part of football, but this is film study with a difference. On Friday, Football Canada will feature a series of short films featuring fascinating football stories from around the nation. Featured subjects include Yol Piok, a former University of Saskatchewan Huskie; Gary Linthorne, a longtime football volunteer from Nova Scotia who passed away in 2020; Reina Iizuka, the first female to play on a university men’s team in Canada, and the Fort McKay Northern Spirits, a team of Indigenous girls from Northern Alberta.  

Women & Girls in Football Conference: Football is for everyone, and this conference on Saturday and Sunday will allow attendees to see the opportunities and possibilities available for women and girls to get and stay involved in football in Canada. Saturday will feature workshops throughout the day, with a closing panel to follow on Sunday evening.  

The RougeZone: If it happens in U SPORTS or the CJFL on Saturday afternoon, you’ll see it on RougeZone. Join hosts Jim Mullin, Gord Randall and Marshall Fergurson from 1-6 p.m. (Eastern) on Saturday as they follow all the amateur football action from Acadia to Vancouver Island and are joined by guests from grassroots football nationwide.

Celebrating National Award Winners: FootballCanada.com will feature interviews with the winners of the Presidents’ Award for peerless contribution to football in Canada, the Diamond Award for lifetime volunteer participation and Canada’s Football Mom of the Year. As well, footballcanada.com will officially become the online home of the Jon Cornish Trophy, the prize for the most outstanding Canadian player in NCAA football.  

Indigenous Merchandise Sales – Fundraising for Indigenous football: A variety of gear featuring the alternate Football Canada logo, created by Squamish, B.C., artist Kolten Khasalus Grant will go on sale on the Football Canada online shop, with all net proceeds being directed to Indigenous and northern football developmen

Krown Gridiron Nation on TSN: This week’s edition of KGN will feature a rollout of the events to come. KGN is scheduled to air on TSN4 & TSN5 at 12:30 p.m. Eastern on Thursday with a repeat at 5 p.m on TSN2.

Raising the Flag: To close the weekend, Football Canada will announce the two national teams in flag football, who will compete in a number of competitions over the next year.

SÉRIE D’ÉVÉNEMENTS PRÉVUE POUR MONTRER #NOTREFOOTBALL

OTTAWA – Football Canada a le plaisir de publier la liste des événements du tout premier Weekend du football au Canada, qui se déroulera du vendredi 15 octobre au dimanche 17 octobre. La série d’événements racontera l’histoire du football dans notre pays, d’un océan à l’autre.  « Le football signifie beaucoup de choses pour de nombreuses personnes partout au Canada », a déclaré Jim Mullin, président de Football Canada.

« En cette période difficile, nous voulions créer un événement numérique grâce auquel le Canada peut prendre connaissance de nombreuses histoires, comprendre la diversité, les défis et les triomphes de nos participants et avoir une discussion nationale sur le portrait du sport que nous aimons aujourd’hui et dans l’avenir. » 

Les événements qui auront lieu au cours de la fin de semaine sont les suivants : 

Festival de courts métrages de Football Canada : L’analyse des films de matchs fait partie intégrante du football, mais il est ici question de films différents. Vendredi, Football Canada présentera une série de courts métrages sur des histoires de football fascinantes de partout au pays. Les sujets en vedette comprennent Yol Piok, ancien joueur des Huskies de l’Université de la Saskatchewan; Gary Linthorne, un bénévole de football de longue date de la Nouvelle-Écosse décédé en 2020; Reina Iizuka, la première femme à évoluer au sein d’une équipe universitaire masculine au Canada; puis les Northern Spirits de Fort McKay, une équipe de filles autochtones du nord de l’Alberta.  

Conférence de Football Canada pour les femmes et les filles : Le football est pour tout le monde et cette conférence, qui aura lieu samedi et dimanche, permettra aux participants de voir les occasions et les possibilités offertes aux femmes et aux filles de s’impliquer et de rester impliquées dans le football au Canada. Des ateliers seront proposés tout au long de la journée de samedi, puis un panel de clôture suivra dimanche soir.  RougeZone : Si l’action se déroule dans un match de U SPORTS ou de la CJFL le samedi après-midi, il en sera question à RougeZone. Joignez-vous aux hôtes Jim Mullin, Gord Randall et Marshall Fergurson de 13 h à 18 h (heure de l’Est) samedi alors qu’ils suivent toutes les activités du football amateur de l’Université Acadia à l’île de Vancouver et accueillent des invités du football local à l’échelle nationale.

 

Célébration des lauréats de prix nationaux : FootballCanada.com présentera des entrevues avec les gagnants du Prix des présidents soulignant une contribution sans égale au football au Canada, du Prix Diamant pour la participation bénévole de longue date et de la Maman de football de l’année au Canada. De plus, footballcanada.com deviendra officiellement le domicile en ligne du trophée Jon-Cornish, le prix décerné au meilleur joueur canadien du football de la NCAA.  

Ventes d’articles autochtones – Activité de financement pour le football autochtone : Divers articles arborant le logo alternatif de Football Canada, créé par l’artiste Kolten Khasalus Grant de Squamish, en Colombie-Britannique, seront mis en vente via la boutique en ligne de Football Canada et tous les profits nets seront versés au développement du football autochtone et du nord du pays.  

Krown Gridiron Nation à TSN : L’édition de cette semaine de KGN présentera un résumé des événements à venir. KGN sera diffusé à TSN4 et TSN5 à 12 h 30 (HE) jeudi et rediffusé à 17 h à TSN2.
