Congratulations to Mo Zhang and Eugene Wang for their Singles qualification to the 2020 Olympic Games
Mo Zhang and Eugene Wang earned their nomination to represent Canada is singles at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Both players went undefeated for 2 days in Kitchener during the Canadian pre-qualification and the North American finals. Mo won 6 matches in total en route to earning her nomination. On the other hand Eugene had to win a total of 4 matches to get his nomination for Tokyo.
Both names will now be submitted to the Canadian Olympic Committee for approval and final selection.
The wins by Mo and Eugene may have overshadowed the other competitors. But honourable mention must go to Jeremy Hazin who finished second losing only to Eugene in the finals. Jeremy has performed consistently over the past 7 months, placing 2nd to Eugene in the first TTCAN selection tournament in September 2019, then winning the second selection tournament in January 2020. He has demonstrated over and over that he is definitely the second best player in Canada.
Honourable mention and a lot of admiration must go to Hui Hung (better known as May Tong). She is a lover of our sport. She has been playing competitively for a very long time, and not to reveal her age we will not confirm for how long. We must admire her tenacity, enthusiasm and charming smile, win or lose. May Tong competes against players more than half her age. She remains fit and determined to win. Finally, she reached the penultimate stage of Olympic Qualification falling only one position short of qualifying.
As President of TTCAN and on behalf of our Board of Directors, I announce that TTCAN will enter Jeremy Hazin and Hui Hung (May Tong) in the Final World Olympic Qualification to be held in Doha, Qatar, on 28-31 May 2020, giving both players one final chance to realize their dream and qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

To all the other Canadian players who tried their best but did not earn a spot into the Olympic Games, I encourage you to keep trying to qualify for other major events and eventually for the next Olympic Games.
