LOS ANGELES, CA – Alannah Yip wins the IFSC Pan American Combined Championships, and becomes Canada’s newest Olympian.

Alannah Yip, of North Vancouver BC, won the 2020 International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Pan American Championships, taking place at Sender One LAX in Los Angeles. With a first place in Boulder, a third place in Lead, and a fifth place in Speed – for a combined score of 15 – Alannah Yip took home the win, and with it, the last available spot for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Alannah Yip will join teammate Sean McColl representing Canada at the 2020 games.

“It is exciting to see Alannah prevail after putting so much effort into her training,” says Christiane Marceau, Executive Director of Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC). “We all knew she was the strongest climber in Canada, and has proven today that she deserves to be on the Olympic team.”

Alannah Yip won her first National Climbing Championship at the age of twelve and has won seven Open National titles since then (3 Lead, 3 Boulder, 1 Speed). She is a graduate of UBC with a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and is also a climbing coach for the Climb Base 5 North Shore Youth Team. She is coached by Andrew Wilson, the National Head Coach for Climbing Escalade Canada.

Sport Climbing will be featured for the first time at the Olympic Games between August 3-6, 2020.

Climbing Escalade Canada is the Canadian governing body for Sport Climbing, which includes the disciplines of Bouldering, Lead Climbing, and Speed Climbing.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Alannah Yip remporte les Championnats panaméricains combinés de l’IFSC et devient la plus récente olympienne au Canada.

Alannah Yip, de Vancouver Nord en CB, a remporté les Championnats panaméricains de la Fédération internationale d’escalade sportive (IFSC) 2020, qui se déroulaient au Sender One à Los Angeles. Avec une première place en Bloc, une troisième place en Voie, et une cinquième place en Vitesse – pour un score combiné de 15 – Alannah Yip a remporté la victoire, et avec celle-ci, la dernière place disponible pour les Jeux olympiques de Tokyo 2020. Alannah Yip se joindra à son coéquipier Sean McColl pour représenter le Canada aux Jeux de 2020.

« C’est excitant de voir Alannah l’emporter après avoir consacré autant d’efforts à son entraînement », a déclaré Christiane Marceau, Directrice exécutive de Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC). « Nous savions tous qu’elle est la grimpeuse la plus forte au Canada, et elle a prouvé aujourd’hui qu’elle méritait de faire partie de l’équipe olympique. »

Alannah Yip a remporté son premier Championnat national d’escalade à l’âge de douze ans, et a remporté sept titres nationaux depuis (3 Voie, 3 Bloc, 1 Vitesse). Elle est diplômée de l’UBC avec un B.A.Sc. en génie mécanique et est également entraîneure d’escalade pour l’équipe jeunesse du centre Climb Base 5 North Shore. Elle est coachée par Andrew Wilson, Entraîneur
en chef de l’équipe nationale pour Climbing Escalade Canada.

L’escalade sportive sera présentée pour la première fois aux Jeux  olympiques du 3 au 6 août prochain.
