BC Rugby – VANCOUVER, BC – Tuesday, March 8th: The world’s top Rugby players have now arrived in Vancouver ahead of the HSBC Canada Sevens Vancouver Tournament and the Youth Rugby Festival, presented by HSBC, is the best opportunity to get up close and personal to Canada’s Rugby stars.

Taking place on Wednesday afternoon (3pm-6pm) at David Lam Park, the Youth Rugby Festival will be headlined by Rugby Canada’s Nanyak Dala and Mike Scholz, as well as members of Canada’s Wheelchair Rugby Team, who are Silver Medalists from London 2012, and are looking to go one better in Rio2016.

“We’re excited to share our passion for rugby with young players from greater Vancouver,” said Mike Scholz, member of Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team. “We’re encouraging everyone to join us on Wednesday afternoon at David Lam Park for the Youth Rugby Festival, presented by HSBC. With the HSBC Men’s Canada Sevens tournament selling out at BC Place, plus the Vancouver Invitational, Under-18 and National Sevens tournaments taking over the city this week, it’s an exciting time for the growth and development of rugby sevens in British Columbia!”

“We are excited to introduce wheelchair rugby to a new generation of rugby players at the Youth Rugby Festival, and to showcase the fact that rugby is a sport for people of all ages, genders and physical abilities,” said Kevin Orr, Head Coach of the Canadian Wheelchair Rugby National Team.

Also in attendance will be members of Rugby Canada’s Men’s XV Team, who are returning from Chile after their 64-13 win in the Americas Rugby Championships. Captain Hubert Buydens and Ray Barkwill, who both play Club Rugby in BC when not on National duty, will be on hand to give instruction to any young players wishing to give Rugby a go or improve their skills.

The Youth Rugby Festival will include free activities, including Rookie Rugby, presented by Honda, Wheelchair Rugby and contact Rugby for experienced players, as well as several free giveaways including free membership to Evo Car Share and a chance to win tickets to the Finals (Sunday, March 13th) of the HSBC Canada Sevens Vancouver Tournament.
