Alpine Canada – Two Canadians in the top 10 in the season-ending downhill
Calgary, Alta. (March 15, 2017) – Under blue bird skies and classic Aspen (U.S.A.) weather, the last World Cup downhill of the season was contested and Canada delivered with fourth and sixth-place finishes. Progressing all season long, Canadian Cowboy Manuel Osborne-Paradis nails his downhill run finishing in fourth-place, missing the podium by just +0.07. This is Osborne-Paradis’ second fourth-place finish this season and fourth World Cup top-ten.
Erik Guay, the 2017 World Championship downhill silver medallist landed his sixth downhill World Cup top ten finish with a sixth-place finish today sitting +0.31 off the first-place time. Guay’s sixth-place finish bumped him up in the overall downhill rankings to finish fifth in the 2016-17 season.
On a track that demanded both technical and gliding abilities, the Canadians end the World Cup season on a high note.
The Italians went 1-2 on the podium today with Dominik Paris finishing in first-place and Peter Fill capturing second. Switzerland’s Carlo Janka rounded out the podium in third-place. Fill’s second-place finish today secured him the 2016-17 downhill Crystal Globe.
The top 25 athletes in the world in each discipline have one last shot to collect points and add podiums to their 2016-17 season this week. Tomorrow the men and women will race a super-G. Catch Guay, Osborne-Paradis and Dustin Cook race the super-G LIVE on at 11:00 am MST/ 1:00pm EST.
