Softball Canada – (Oklahoma City, OK) The Canadian Women’s National Softball Team is set to compete at the US World Cup of Softball XII in Oklahoma City, Okla. this week (July 5-9). Team Canada will start the event with a doubleheader, facing top-ranked Japan at 11:00am CDT followed by the USA Junior Women’s National Team at 1:30pm CDT.
 
The event will feature a total of eight teams, including the top four countries from the World Baseball Softball Confederation’s Women’s Softball World Rankings – No. 1 Japan, No. 2 USA, No. 3 Canada, No. 4 Australia. Also competing will be No. 7 Puerto Rico, No. 10 Mexico, No. 17 Philippines and the USA Junior Women’s National Team. The teams will play a full round-robin, with the top two teams advancing to the Gold medal game and other teams paired up for placement games.
 
Team Canada is coming off a bronze medal finish at the 2016 WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship held last year in Surrey, B.C. The team held a selection camp that wrapped up last week and played a set of three exhibition games against the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) League.
 
Following the completion of the US World Cup of Softball XII, Team Canada will travel to Surrey, BC to compete at the Canada Cup International Softball Championship from July 11-17, which will feature 15 teams – including both Canada’s Women’s Elite team and Junior Women’s National Team.
