Wheelchair Rugby Canada – Wheelchair Rugby Canada Announces Agreement with Misawa City, Japan (RICHMOND, BC – June 17, 2018) Wheelchair Rugby Canada announced today an agreement with Misawa City in Japan that confirms Misawa City will host Team Canada for up to five training camps over the next two years in the lead up to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

A ceremonial signing of the agreement between Catherine Cadieux, CEO of Wheelchair Rugby Canada and Kazumasa Taneichi, the Mayor of Misawa City, was held on June 17th during the closing ceremonies of the 2018 Canada Cup.

“Not only is Misawa City covering all costs for Team Canada from the time of their arrival in Tokyo, they have gone to great expense to modify their facilities to accommodate our athlete population and enhance accessibility in their beautiful city,” said Wheelchair Rugby Canada CEO, Catherine Cadieux.

“The agreement we have with the city of Misawa is going to be massive for our team in terms of our preparations for Tokyo 2020. We will gain a high performance environment that is entirely tailored to our needs,” said Head Coach Patrick Cote, “When we are on the road, we always aim to create a bubble where the players are comfortable and able to focus solely on rugby. I am confident the city of Misawa will provide us with that bubble.”

Team Canada will hold its first training camp in Misawa City in October of this year.
