Alpine Canada – Calgary, Alta. (December 4, 2016) – At the Lake Louise Alpine Ski World Cup, Valérie Grenier nailed both downhill races and the super-G finishing with three top-30 results in as many days. Today’s super-G was delayed by an hour due to heavy snowfall over night and into the morning, also causing a lower-start for ladies’ race. 

Starting with bib number 45, Grenier challenged the course and finished in the 25th-spot. Skiing a more conservative and rounder line than she would’ve liked, Grenier feels she left a bit behind despite securing super-G points in today’s race. 

In the past two weeks, Grenier has earned World Cup points in four disciplines, slalom, giant slalom, super-G and downhill, a feat no other woman on the circuit has accomplished yet this year. The young 20-year-old has proved she’s a versatile and promising Canadian athlete with tremendous potential. 

Also flying down today’s super-G track was Toronto’s 22-year-old Candace Crawford. Putting down a great top section of the run, Crawford didn’t manage to hang onto the bottom section as she’d hoped ending the day in 39th. This is Crawford’s second super-G start of her career with a personal best 22nd-place in the 2016 Andora super-G.

Both Crawford and Grenier head to Europe for the Sestriere, Italy tech races. 

19-year-old Stefanie Fleckenstein had her first World Cup super-G start today. This weekend marked a series of firsts for the Development Team athlete who also started her very first World Cup downhill on Friday. With a solid performance at every race, crossing the line full of enthusiasm, the young talent will be looking to make gains all season. Fleckenstein will remain at Lake Louise for the next week racing in the scheduled Nor-Am downhill races. 

“It was such a great experience to be out there this weekend,” said Fleckenstein. “I don’t even know how to describe it. It was just amazing to be with the World Cup team and around those legendary names. The crowd and the volunteers are amazing. It was a great learning experience and I can’t wait to see what else the season holds.”

Switzerland’s Lara Gut stood on top of the super-G podium today, finishing in a time of 1:02.68. Tina Weirather from Liechtenstein took second-place 0.10 seconds back and Italy’s Sofia Goggia finished in third-place 0.59 seconds from the first-place time.
