Rowing Canada Aviron – Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) is committed to achieving its vision of being recognized as a consistent world leading rowing nation and medal winning sport in Canada. To achieve this vision and as outlined in the RCA Strategic Plan, RCA has partnered with the Sport Law & Strategy Group to conduct a review of its Facilities and National Training Centre (NTC) Strategy. The SLSG offers a full range of strategic, communications and legal services and has supported hundreds of National Sport Organizations (NSO), Provincial Sport Organizations (PSO), and Multi-Sport Organizations (MSO) over the past 25 years.

By way of background, RCA communicated an update on its Facilities and NTC short-term plan to membership last November. This update outlined the intention to partner with an independent consultant firm to complete an environmental scan and consultation process to assist in the generation of RCA’s long-term (10 year) Facilities and NTC Strategy. This independent consultation will further assist to inform the decision making process for the location of the National Team’s training environments in the lead up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
 
The SLSG will be working alongside the RCA Working Group, struck by the Board to oversee the project. The members of the Working Group will include:  RCA Board member, RCA Chief Executive Officer, RCA High Performance Director, appointed content experts and will be responsible for conducting research, engaging in stakeholder consultations and leading the development and decision making process for the long-term Facilities and NTC Strategy.

Leveraging the work done to date on this project, the SLSG and the Working Group will seek insights from National Team athletes (current and alumni), high performance coaches, high performance staff, key provincial stakeholders and performance partners to ensure an optimal plan is established to maximize RCA’s podium success.  Research, analysis and stakeholder consultation will take place in January through until early March 2018.  We anticipate that the project will be completed by end of March with updates being shared with our membership as needed.
