BC Rugby – A busy summer of rugby is upon us, with Canada vs Japan at BC Place on June 11th serving as the centrepiece event.

Opportunity also beckons for youth and adults aspiring to represent their region and their province on the rugby pitch in the weeks ahead.

Canada v. Japan – Discounted Group Tickets Available Now!
Canada’s Senior Men’s XV Team will play in the first-ever Test match held at BC Place when they take on #10 ranked Japan. This is a monumental achievement for Rugby in BC and we encourage you to support this event to ensure that Rugby continues to get the recognition it deserves in Canada. 

Rugby Canada has provided the BC Rugby community with some pretty sweet group packages, but you have to be quick as it’s first in, best dressed… as the official Flag Bearers!! The Club Pack offer is giving the first large group to purchase 150 tickets the match day opportunities of providing captain escorts, flag bearers and ball delivery, plus the opportunity to have teams participate in the half time Under 14 & younger games.  Rugby Canada also have room for another 5 Under 14 & younger teams to be a part of those half-time games, which will be allocated to the first 5 groups purchasing 100+ tickets.

Adult group ticket form (Prices range from $24.40 to $53.45)

Deadline for group ticket purchases is June 3, 2016. When wanting to purchase both Youth & Adult tickets as one group, ensure to select the $24.40 adult tickets and please clearly mark that the two forms belong as one group to ensure tickets allocated are in blocks 229-230.

Rugby Canada’s Senior Men’s 7s Team is in France for the Paris 7s, which got underway on Friday afternoon. Canada opened with a loss to the host French team. You can watch the live streaming coverage Saturday and Sunday on worldrugby.org.
BC Rugby Age-Grade XV Team Identification Session – May 15th at UBC
Female rugby players aged 14-19, and male rugby players aged 13-18 will have an opportunity to showcase their skills for the BC Rugby Age-Grade XV Team Coaches at UBC on Sunday, May 15th. This session begins at 10:00am. Parents and players can learn more about the session and enroll by clicking here.

Also at UBC on Sunday, the BC Rugby U19 Men’s XV Team will be holding an Identification Session, beginning at 11:00am. For further details about the U19 Men’s Program, click here.

Latest News on 2016 Regional Rep Rugby 
B2Gold Provincial Regional Championships

For youth aged 13-17, the B2Gold Provincial Regional Championships represent the key selection platform on the pathway to BC Rugby Age-Grade XVs Team representation.

The U18 Boys’ Division begins a preliminary round with matches on June 11, 15 and 18, concluding with Finals on June 26th at Burnaby Lake Rugby Club. All other divisions will participate in a single-weekend tournament, taking place June 24-26 at Burnaby Lake. 

Selection and training activities will be getting underway soon for many of those teams, and we’ll post schedules as we get them to bcrugby.com/prc.

BC Games

Girls born in 1999 or 2000 are eligible to compete in Rugby Sevens at the BC Summer Games in Abbotsford from July 21-24, 2016.

Senior Women’s XV Teams

The Ruth Hellerud-Brown Cup features the top BC-eligible women’s players from Vancouver Island against those from the Mainland. Round one of the two-game series takes place this Saturday, May 14th, at Westshore Rec Centre in Colwood. Kickoff is at 12:15pm. Round two is scheduled for late afternoon on June 3rd at Klahanie Park in West Vancouver.

Senior Men’s XV Teams

The men’s regional competition concluded last weekend. Next up is the BC Bears’ Squad Camp on May 21-22, as they prepare to face England Counties XV on June 3rd at Klahanie Park in West Vancouver. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.

Kraft Heinz Project Play invites you to nominate a community project for a chance to win a $250,000 recreational facility upgrade. Last year, Swillers Rugby Club was one of four national finalists, and there is every reason to get a nomination in for your club this year. The deadline to apply is June 12. First Nations Thunder Rugby Fundraiser
Emerging 7s star Hannah Darling will be honoured with a First Nations Capping Ceremony this Sunday, May 15th, at Westshore Rugby Club in Colwood. The event takes place from 2:00pm-5:00pm.

The ceremony is a celebration of Hannah’s Ojibwe heritage, and recognizes her achievements on the field as a role model for Aboriginal youth. The event will also serve as a fundraiser for the Thunder Rugby Program, which creates and strengthens opportunities for First Nations athletes to play rugby.
