U Sports – TORONTO (U Sports) – The Carleton Ravens are the No.1 team in the nation in U Sports women’s basketball for the first time in program history.

The Ravens, who join the Carleton men atop the country – the school’s first sweep of the basketball rankings – jumped up one position, taking over top spot from the Regina Cougars, who fall to No. 3.

After a strong preseason, where they finished 11-3, the Ravens women head into the season on a six-game winning streak, after posting back-to-back victories over UQAM and Bishops over the weekend. The Ravens open their season on Friday when they visit the Algoma Thunderbirds.

In cross country, the Laval men and Guelph women finish the season retaining their No.1 ranking, after capturing gold at the CIS Championship this past weekend. Building off home advantage on the Plains of Abraham, the host Rouge et Or won their first national title, while the Gryphons earned their 12th consecutive championship.

In other U Sports rankings, Brock (men’s and women’s wrestling), Alberta (men’s and women’s volleyball), UNB (men’s hockey), and UBC (men’s and women’s swimming and women’s hockey), all maintain their pole positions for another week.
