Gymnastics Canada  – TAIPEI CITY, TPE (August 23, 2017) – Olympians Ellie Black of Halifax, NS and Brittany Rogers of Calgary, AB finished competition on a high note, winning two gold medals and one bronze medal combined at the Summer Universiade (FISU) Games in Taipei City, TPE.
 
Rogers qualified for apparatus finals in both the vault and beam during Monday’s team event final. Rogers qualified in eighth place on beam, but managed to move up in the final with a strong performance to score 13.266 points and finish in fifth place overall.
 
In the vault final, Rogers dominated the competition and was the only gymnast to score above 14.000 points on both passes, finishing the final with a combined score of 14.250 and the gold medal. Black finished fourth in the vault final, missing the podium by .063 points.
 
“It’s always such an honour representing Canada, and to do it beside Ellie today in the finals was such a great experience,” said Rogers. “I’m so proud of the silver medal performance from the team event on day one, everything else was just a cherry on top. I’m so excited for the future of Canadian gymnastics and how every competition we just keep climbing and getting stronger. The sky is the limit!”
 
Black, who qualified for all four apparatus finals, finished the day with a gold and bronze medal, adding to the two medals received in the team and all-around events. Black’s gold medal came on beam, where she finished with 14.133 points following a terrific routine.
 
In the all-around final on Tuesday, Black struggled on her bars routine, where she scored 12.900 points. In the apparatus final, Black put that routine out of her mind and had her strongest bars routine of the week, scoring 13.966 points and taking home the bronze medal.
 
“I was very happy with our performances today,” said Black following competition. “It was great being back out there with Brittany and hitting some great routines for Canada. Overall, this was a great competition for our team and to show what Canadian gymnastics can do!”
 
In total, Canada won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals in women’s artistic gymnastics at the FISU Games.
 
Canadian rhythmic gymnasts will take to the floor at the FISU Games August 27 – 29th.
