Racquetball Canada  – Winnipeg, July 19, 2016 – Team Canada won three of its four matches today at the 2016 World Championships being held in Cali, Colombia from July 16 – 23.  Today was the first day of elimination round competition.

In Men’s Singles, the 6th seeded Samuel Murray of Baie-Comeau had a strong match to move onto the round of 16, Murray defeated the 27^th seed, Juan Jose Salvatierra of Guatemala in two games with score of 15-2, 15-8.  

Pedro Castro of Brossard, who was seeded 26th took the 7th seed Roland Keller of Bolivia to a tie-breaker. Castro lost the first game 15-10, but came back in the second to win 9-15. Keller took control in the tie breaker, winning 11-3. Castro will continue to play in the consolation round.  

In Women’s Singles, both Michèle Morissette of Baie-Comeau and Christine Richardson of Regina won their matches. Morissette won her match against Jung Eun Ane of Korea in two games with scores of 15-7, 15-14. Richardson had to dig deepe as her match against Merynanyelly Delgado Araujo of the Dominican Republic went to a tiebreaker. Richardson had a strong finish, winning the match with scores of 15-7, 5-16, 11-7.

Both the Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles teams had a day off competition on Tuesday.
