Waterloo Region Bid Committee – Waterloo Region’s Bid for the 2021 Canada Summer Games is entering the crucial final stage.  The Canada Games Evaluation Committee is visiting all four competing bids stopping in Waterloo Region on Tuesday February 28. The visit will consist of opportunities to review final venue plans, hear presentations on components of the bid proposal for Waterloo Region as well as witness first-hand, community support in hosting the Canada Games.

Note:  Due to the tight timelines of the Canada Games Evaluation Committee’s site visit, there are  no media opportunities while the committee is  assessing venues.  There will be only one media interview availability with the chair of the Canada Games Evaluation Committee  at 5 pm. and the following media opportunities:

8:00 am – 8:05  Special dance performance and song by grade three and four students from Lincoln Heights Public School

Location:  Lobby of the Delta Hotel 110 Erb Street West, Waterloo

9:45 – 10:15 am Media are invited as the Bid Evaluation Committee has a brief stop  at Chicopee Ski and Summer Resort, proposed site of tennis and mountain bike.   The Executive Director of Chicopee Bill Creighton will be available for media interviews just prior to the brief event at 9:45 am.   There will be a photo opportunity with the mayors of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge who will be on hand and available to speak to the media.

11:00 am  – 12:00 pm Media are invited to a community pep rally at THEMUSEUM and for a special unveiling which will make for a great visual opportunity.  Several hundred school children and community leaders will be on hand to showcase our special community spirit and pride and rally in support of hosting the 2021 Canada Summer Games.  (Sponsored by Pillers and Westons)

5:00 pm – 5:15 pm Canada Games Bid Evaluation Committee Chair Wayne Carew is available to speak to media to reflect on the day and Waterloo Region’s Bid.  Members of the Waterloo Region Bid Committee will be available to the media as well as some of the Region’s technology leaders who are getting behind the bid.

Just a reminder that members of the public are encouraged to rally behind the bid by taking a couple of minutes to register their support on the Waterloo Region’s 2021 Canada Games website at   www.WeRally2021.ca It’s crucial they do so before the Evaluation Committee visits on February 28

They are also encouraged to pack the square at THEMUSEUM at 11 am on February 28 wearing Team Canada colours or jerseys.   Community spirit and support is expected to play a key factor in the ultimate decision on March 30.  Ottawa, Sudbury and the Niagara Region are also in the running.
