Canoe Kayak Canada – OTTAWA, ONTARIO (March 15, 2018) – Canoe Kayak Canada is proud to announce the partnership with the Rideau Canoe Club in Ottawa, Ontario as the new home of the Canadian Men’s Canoe Sprint team.

“We are delighted to partner with the Rideau Canoe Club and Carleton University to develop a world-leading environment for our National Men’s Canoe Team”, said Graham Barton, Chief Technical Officer at Canoe Kayak Canada. “We now have a strong network of facilities, support and coaching leadership in Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia to focus the preparation of our senior athletes for the upcoming World Championships in 2018 and 2019 as well as the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020.”

“We are also very excited to partner with Canoe Kayak Canada in providing a home base for the Canadian Men’s Canoe Sprint team”, said Tom Hoferek, Commodore at the Rideau Canoe Club. “We take great pride in the world class facility we have here and are confident that having this elite training centre operating out of our club will be a win-win for Canoe Kayak Canada and for the Rideau Canoe Club.”

Under the leadership of the Men’s Canoe Sprint coach, Andreas Dittmer, athletes will have access to ideal on and off-water training environments. Other resources including equipment, sport performance services and support for special projects will be allocated to the center to ensure the highest quality daily training environment for podium potential athletes.

“Over the past years, our team has been working to provide the best environments and facilities for our fastest athletes to train together with support from National Team coaches and sport science staff”, said Casey Wade, Chief Executive Officer at Canoe Kayak Canada. “With Andreas as the new coach and Ottawa as a new home, our Men’s Canoe Sprint teams will have all the facilities and services needed to be successful internationally for the coming years”.

In addition to the local partners, the new national team training center and Canoe Kayak Canada’s High Performance Program are generously supported by Sport Canada, Own the Podium and the Canadian Olympic Committee.
