Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec – Montreal, November 17th, 2016 – It is with great pleasure that the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) unveiled the names of the top student-athletes who earned a bursary for their performances in the 2015-2016 season while competing in an RSEQ (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec) sport.

The 21 student-athletes nominated in the categories of Academic Excellence, individual sports, team sports and Leadership will be honoured during the 31st University Sport Gala, presented by RDS in collaboration with TKNL on November 30th. The winners of each category as well as Coach of the year and Team of the Year in a male and female sport, will be announced throughout the evening.

“Once again this year, we are astounded by the ability of these student-athletes to manage and thrive despite the unique demands on their schedules. They are models of hard work, determination and discipline” said Claude Chagnon, President of the Quebec Foundation for Athletic excellence. “The Foundation is honoured to continue to support university sport and its student-athletes in the pursuit of their objectives”, he added.

The 36 student-athletes who will share $143,000 in recruitment bursaries will also be honoured throughout the evening, and will be on hand to receive their bursaries. Their names were revealed earlier this year by the Foundation.

The profiles of the finalists will be revealed, one category per day, in the form of video capsules broadcasted on the FAEQ Facebook page (FAEQ-Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec), on RDS INFO as well as online in the video zone of the RDS web site, in the Sports menu, by cliquing on Gala du sport universitaire. Following the same schedule, short profiles will be published in the Journal de Montréal newspaper. The Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence Quebec is proud to be affiliated with prestigious partners such as RDS and the Journal de Montréal, who contribute greatly to emphasizing the importance of these young role models in Quebec society.

About the Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec: UNITED FOR SUCCESS

The foundation stands out for its customized approach, its careful management and its influential role in sports and education. Its new five-year plan, for 2015 to 2020, focuses on the foundation’s main objectives: to increase by 35% the annual amount awarded in scholarships, and to increase the number of annual recipients. This year, a total of more than 1.2 million dollars will be awarded to more than 450 students and student-athletes. The foundation’s scholarships reward academic excellence, encourage balancing high-level sports and study, highlight leadership skills and honor perseverance. FAEQ is inspired by a genuine desire to unite with its partners and former recipients for the success of its recipients, and to make a difference in their academic, athletic and/or personal journeys.
