Aboriginal Sport Circle – This past weekend the Aboriginal Sport Circle (ASC) hosted their 2018 Annual General Assembly in Ottawa. The ASC has made positive progress on their 2017-2020 ASC Business Plan outcomes and they look forward to the continued progress of the TRC calls to action in the year ahead.

The ASC is pleased to welcome four (4) new Board of Directors that were elected at the recent Annual Assembly:

Dr Janice Forsyth – Vice President (ON)

Janice is very well known within the Indigenous sport and physical activity sector and highly regarded as a leader, academic and advocate. Janice currently serves as the Associate professor, Director, First Nations Studies at Western University.

Cheryl McCallum – Director (SK)

Cheryl is a Metis woman born and raised in Saskatoon, who is currently the Manager of the Community Sport Development at Sask Sport Inc.

Jaime Battiste – Director (NS)

Jaime is a law graduate from Dalhousie University, a resident of Eskasoni First Nation and a member of Potlotek First Nation. He is currently the Treaty Education Lead for Nova Scotia.

Mel Whitesell – Director (MB)

Mel is the Executive Director of the Manitoba Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Council (MASRC). She has been a leader and supporter of the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC) for many years and is a member of the Manitoba Metis Nation. 

They will join Alwyn Morris (President), Ken Edzerza (Director), Jerry Wetzel (Director) and Dale Plett (Director) to form the 2018-2019 ASC Board of Directors.
