The Canadian Moguls Team Wraps up the Season With a Little Adversity

Freestyle Canada​ – Sierra Nevada, Spain, March 9, 2017 – The moguls squad took to the slopes today in Sierra Nevada, Spain as they looked to better yesterday’s third-place finish by Mikaël Kingsbury and Justine Dufour-Lapointe. Unfortunately, the team faced off against some key contenders, anxious to throw a wrench in plans of Canada’s best dual moguls competitors. 
 
Despite a little adversity in competition today, the team has had an incredible season. Mikaël Kingsbury has been the foundation for this group as he claimed a total of nine World Cup victories this season, seven of which were consecutive. In addition to those victories, Mikaël captured his sixth consecutive crystal globes, both big and small, and his seventh World Championship medal. 
 
“I competed against Ikuma Horishima and I thought it would have made a great final if we hadn’t faced each other in the first round. I tried to match his jumps, he was going big, so I went big, but in the red course, he’s just too fast… I don’t want to let the World Championships overshadow my season. It’s been the best season of my career, and I feel as though I’m headed in the right direction for the Olympics next year,” stated Mikaël Kingsbury.
 
Teammate Philippe Marquis managed to finish the season with three podium performances. What was most impressive from Phil’s season was his consistent ability to finish within the top 10. He’s been within striking distance of the podium at almost every World Cup. 
 
On the women’s side, Justine Dufour-Lapointe led the way as she captured six podiums (one win) this season, placing her third in the overall ranking. Yesterday’s third-place finish was also Justine’s fourth World Championship medal. Teammate and sister Chloé Dufour-Lapointe also found success this season, as she claimed third at both domestic World Cups in Calgary and Val St-Côme.
 
”It’s a good thing that we faced adversity this year, because we have the whole summer to make changes and improve on our skills. For us, it’s a big source of motivation, to push ourselves even harder during the summer. It was meant to be, as it will act as motivation to push us every single day. We will get stronger for next season,” said the Dufour-Lapointe sisters. 
 
Andi Naude also had a standout season, as she captured four podiums. On any given day, it seems that Andi is capable of finding her way onto the podium. She’s certainly one to watch in the lead up to the Olympics.
