Freestyle Canada – Sierra Nevada, Spain, March 10, 2017 – The aerials team stepped up this evening and delivered a number of personal best results at the Freestyle FIS World Championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain.
 
Olivier Rochon led the way for the Canadian squad finishing sixth in the final, his best result of the season. “I really set my mind to rest and came here with a good attitude. My strategy was to execute my easiest trick to hardest trick. I made it through every round, and that was the plan. Making it to the super final was my goal. That was my first super final of the year, I’m really happy with that,” said Rochon, for whom this was a second appearance at the World Championships.
 
On the women’s side, Catrine Lavallée finished seventh in her first ever World Championships final. Catrine is no stranger to success, as she had previously won the 2014 Junior World Championships in Chiesa, Valmalenco, Italy. She will certainly be one to watch as the Olympics fast approach. 
 
”This final was so exciting! The jump I’m most proud of was my first jump, the full full. It was my best score ever, and I qualified first. Finishing seventh for me is like a dream, I’m super excited right now. Every competition is like a new day, and it feels like Christmas morning!” said Catrine Lavallée, who improved her FIS World Cup ranking by ten positions this year.
 
Teammates Travis Gerrits and Lewis Irving also found success earlier on this season on the World Cup circuit. Gerrits finished eighth in Lake Placid, New York while Irving finished seventh in Beida Lake, China.
 
The aerials team will now rest, regroup and begin preparation for the 2018 season and the Winter Olympic Games.
