Aboriginal Sport Circle  – July 6, 2017 – The Aboriginal Sport Circle is proud to announce that Membertou, Nova Scotia will host the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship in May 2018.

The 2018 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships will be held at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre May 6-12.

“The Aboriginal Sport Circle is proud to be bringing the 2018 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships back to Nova Scotia. Chief Paul and the community of Membertou have assembled a first-class team with an A-1 facility and know that this elite National Championship will be well received and hosted.” Jeff Spencer, Chair of the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship working group.

The Championship is seen as an opportunity to help develop, enrich and advance the sport of hockey throughout Cape Breton, and provide a legacy program for Mi’kmaq youth there.

“We look forward to hosting this action-packed tournament right here in our community and to support Aboriginal youth as they pursue their hockey dreams,” Membertou Chief Terry Paul, host committee Co-Chair.

The Championship provides a forum for elite bantam and midget age aboriginal male and female hockey players, to showcase their athletic abilities while fostering cultural unity and pride.

The event, held annually since 2002, also serves as a focal point for grassroots and regional Aboriginal hockey development. “The Aboriginal Sport Circle is very proud of the positive impact this event has had on so many athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers over the years.” Alwyn Morris, President Aboriginal Sport Circle.
