Nova Scotia Golf Association – TEAM PEI HAS A ONE POINT LEAD OVER TEAM NS AT THE 2016 ATLANTIC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE FOX MEADOW GOLF CLUB
 
The 3rd Annual Atlantic Golf Championship got underway today at the Fox Meadow Golf Club in Stratford, PEI. Teams representing the four Atlantic Provinces are competing in individual and team competitions. The event which features six divisions which includes men’s and women’s amateur, mid-master, and senior divisions. Each provincial team has three players as well as one super senior male and female with the top two scores from each team counting towards the province’s total. In each division points are awarded with 1st-4 points, 2nd -3 points, 3rd -2 points, 4th -1 point. Winners in each of the individual competitions will receive an exemptions into the respective Golf Canada National Championships.
 
Anne Balser from the Links of Brunello in Halifax is leading the Amateur Womens Division after firing a two under par 70. Team mate Cristal Fitzpatrick from the Grandview in Dartmouth is sitting in second place after she carded a one under par 71.  Team Nova Scotia has a comfortable lead heading into tomorrows round with a combined team score of three under. Team New Brunswick is in second place.

Martin O’Brien from the Mill River Golf fired a one under par 71 today and has a one-stroke lead over Nik Penashue of Newfoundland in the Mens Amateur Division. Penashue is a member of the Bally Haly Golf Club in St. John’s and is even after the first round. PEI is leading the Men’s Amateur team competition by 3 strokes over Newfoundland.

New Brunswick native Shelley Thomas from the Country Meadows Golf Club in Moncton leads the Womens Mid Master Division. Thomas carded a four over par 76 and has a six stroke lead over New Brunswick team members, Angela Welsh and Allison Chisholm.  Team NB has a 12 stroke lead over Team PEI.

Kensington, PEI native Tim Yorke was also one under following the first round. The Anderson Creek Golf Club member has a one stroke lead over Jeff Hovell from the Ashburn Golf Club in Halifax in the Mens Mid-Master Division. PEI has a two stroke lead over Team NS heading into tomorrow’s second round.

Sherry White from the Belvedere Golf Club is currently leading the Womens Senior Division after her first 77 (+5). White is one stroke over Debbie Arsenault from Dartmouth. Team NS currently leading the Women’s Senior Team Competition.

In Mens Senior Division, St. John’s NFLD, native, Howard Hansford was one over par (73) today and has a two stroke lead over Jeff Cooke from the Belvedere Golf Club. Team NFLD has 3 stroke lead of Team PEI with round left to play.

Jeanie Boudreau from Dartmouth is currently leading the Womens Super Senior Division over Humber Valley member Judy Gillam. Boudreau has a 5 storke lead and is also currently tied for the lead in the Senior Division.

Don Boland from Clovelly Golf Club in St. John’s, NFLD shot an 80 during the first round and has five stroke lead over PEI Team Member, Barry White in the Mens Super Senior Division
