Curling Canada – In only four months, Canada’s best women’s curling teams will be gathering in Sydney for the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

And we now know three significant items about the 2019 Scotties, set for Feb. 16-24 at Centre 200 in Sydney:

— We know when Team Nova Scotia will be playing its preliminary-round games

— We know Team Jennifer Jones will be in Sydney in pursuit of a defence of the Canadian championship the team won last February at the 2018 Scotties in Penticton, B.C.

— And we know Team Rachel Homan will be in Sydney to play for a fourth Scotties title over the past seven seasons.

So, expect demand to be high when a variety of new ticket offers goes on sale Friday at 10 a.m. AT.

Ottawa’s Team Homan was supposed to be Team Canada at the 2018 Scotties after winning its third Canadian championship in 2017 at St. Catharines, Ont.

But because Team Homan won gold at the 2017 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings and advanced to represent Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, the team couldn’t accept its Team Canada berth at the Scotties.

In lieu of that, Team Homan will have two avenues into the 2019 Scotties. Homan, vice-skip Emma Miskew, second Joanne Courtney and lead Lisa Weagle can advance by winning the Ontario championship.

But if they don’t, they will be placed directly into the Friday night (Feb. 15) Wild Card Game, which will decide the final entry into the 16-team field for the 2019 Scotties.

Their opponent won’t be known until after the various provincial and territorial championships are completed.

Here’s a look at the new ticket offers that will be available on Friday:

• Opening Weekend Package ($99): First five draws on opening Saturday and Sunday

• Championship Weekend Package ($189): Final six draws plus tiebreaker draw, if necessary. (Friday, Feb. 22-Sunday, Feb. 24).

• Sunday through Wednesday Single-Day Packages ($59): Three draws in one day

• Thursday Single-Day Package ($49): Two guaranteed draws, plus tiebreaker (if nec.)

Full-event packages are also still available for $399, guaranteeing you the same great seat for all 22 draws plus any necessary tiebreakers.

Preliminary-round single-draw tickets will be available Nov. 16. Due to expected high demand on the championship weekend package, all other single-draw tickets will go on sale Jan. 10.

All ticket packages are subject to standard facility and ticket service fees, and are available at the Centre 200 Box Office, online at curling.ca/tickets or by calling 902-564-2200.

With the 16-team, two-pool competition format being used for the second time in 2019, the Nova Scotia champions’ round-robin schedule is now set for the first few days of the 2019 Scotties. Once the preliminary round is complete and the top four teams from each pool move into the Championship Pool, the remainder of the schedule will be set.

For now, we know Nova Scotia will play in the opening draw on Saturday, Feb. 16, and also will be featured in Draws 3 and 5 (both on Sunday), 7 (on Monday), 9 and 11 (both on Tuesday) and 13 (on Wednesday).

In addition to being a part of the world’s most famous women’s curling competition inside Centre 200, you’ll also be a part of what will be Cape Breton’s most famous curling party, the HeartStop Lounge — just a short shuttle ride away from the arena at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion. You can check out live music, have a meal and mingle with players and fellow fans from all over Canada.
