Softball Canada – (Clearwater, Fla.) The Canadian Junior Women’s National Team is ready to compete at the WBSC Softball World Championship which is set to take place July 24-30 in Clearwater, Fla. The team is coming off a successful run at the Canada Cup International Softball Championship last week in Surrey, B.C. where they lost in the Placement round final, with their only losses coming against top-level Women’s National Teams from Australia (No. 4), Chinese Taipei (No. 9) and Venezuela (No. 16).
 
“After a very competitive camp and a successful run at the Canada Cup, the coaching staff feels that we have a team that is deep in talent and versatility” stated Head Coach Keith Mackintosh. “We are excited with the work and progress we have seen from this group of athletes as we prepare to head into the World Championship.”
 
The WBSC Junior Women’s Softball World Championship will feature a total of 26 teams divided into four groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Championship round, with the top team from each group earning double life. The remaining teams will square off in the Placement round.
 
At the previous WBSC Junior Women’s World Championship held in Oklahoma City in 2015, Team Canada matched its best-ever finish of fourth. Two players from that team will be competing in this year’s tournament: Becki Monaghan(Spruce Grove, Alta.) and Elizabeth Murphy (Maple Ridge, B.C.
