Racquetball Canada  – Winnipeg, November 12, 2017 – Canada athletes have won two medals at the 2017 International Racquetball Federation Junior World Championships, both in the Boys U18 events.  

Simon Comeau and Trevor Webb won silver in the U18 Boys Doubles event on Saturday. 

The team faced Mexico’s Gerardo Franco and Eduardo Portillo in the final. The Canadians fought hard for control in the first game before Franco and Portillo pulled away to win 15-9. The second game went Mexico’s way with Franco and Portillo winning 15-2. The Canadian team advanced to Saturday’s final after a hard-fought match against Costa Rica in the semi-final. 

Webb also won a bronze medal in the U18 boys singles event. 

In the team standings, the Canadian girls team finished in fourth place and the boys team was fifth. This gave the overall team a fifth place finish in the tournament.  

The Junior World Championships, which was held in Minneapolis, got underway Sunday, November 5 and concluded, Saturday, November 11. Eleven athletes and three coaches represented Canada at the championships.  

The next major event for several of the athletes competing at the Junior World Championships will be the Racquetball Canada National Team Selection Event being held in Vernon from November 22 to 24. Tournament results are part of the criteria used to select Canada’s team for the 2018 Pan Am Championships and World Championships.
