Team BC Player Selection Camp announced for 2019 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships
Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (ISPARC) – Tuesday, December 18, 2018 – The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (I∙SPARC) is pleased to announce the details of the Player Selection Camp for Team BC’s participation in the 2019 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC). The 2019 NAHC will be hosted in Whitehorse, Yukon, May 6-12, 2019.
2019 TEAM BC PLAYER SELECTION CAMP
Top Indigenous male and female hockey players are invited to participate in the 2019 Team BC Player Selection Camp where players will be evaluated and selected over a three-day period by the Team BC Coaching staff. Team BC is seeking 20 male and 20 female athletes to represent BC at the NAHC. The Selection Camp will be held April 5-7, 2019 at the Matsqui Recreation Centre in Abbotsford, BC.

The 2019 Camp Registration Fee of $120 per player will include a Team BC Selection Camp practice jersey. Pre-registration is mandatory as no ‘walk-ins’ are accepted. Online registration will open on January 15, 2019 at www.teambcnahc.com.
Players must meet the following criteria to be eligible to participate in the Camp:
- Resident of British Columbia and be of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Métis, Inuit). Acceptable proof of ancestry includes Status card, Treaty card, Provincial Métis card, Inuit or Inuvialuit identification. For those without a card, a formal Declaration of Ancestry may be completed with supporting documentation (form available upon request.
- Registered or eligible to be registered with BC Hockey. Players currently not registered with BC Hockey may be registered via this camp for an additional fee of $40.
- Male: Bantam or Midget age, as of the 2018/19 competitive season (born 2001 to 2005)*
- Female: Bantam or Midget age, as of the 2018/19 competitive season (born 2001 to 2005)*
*NOTE: The NAHC program is primarily for Midget aged hockey players (born 2001-2003) with Bantam aged players eligible to compete in the NAHC. As a competitive selection camp, Midget and Bantam players will be competing amongst one another for a position on the team. For safety reasons, Bantam age players (born 2004 and 2005) must be approved by the coaching staff before they can participate in the camp. The coaching staff will consider the player’s profile and competitive experience in rendering a decision.
National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC)
The NAHC provides a forum for elite Bantam/Midget age Aboriginal hockey players from across Canada. The event aids in fostering cultural unity and pride and celebrates the athletic abilities of Indigenous athletes from across the country. Team BC is represented by two teams, one male and one female which are both comprised of the top players from across the province.

The overarching mission of the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (I∙SPARC) is to improve the health outcomes of Indigenous people across British Columbia by supporting and encouraging physically active communities and by expanding access to sports and recreation opportunities. I∙SPARC has established six regions across BC inclusive of the Northwest, Northeast, Interior, Fraser, Vancouver Coastal, and Vancouver Island. This structure brings together community sport, recreation, physical activity and health leaders from within each Region to establish committees, set priorities and create annual plans for advancing sport, recreation and physical activity in their area.
