Taekwondo Canada – OTTAWA— Spanning from Vancouver to Moncton, Taekwondo Canada will field a team of 44 athletes who were born in clubs across most of the country for the 2018 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championship Team that will compete in Taipei, Taiwan, November 12-15.

Earning their coveted spots to represent Canada through the national body’s team selection policy, Taekwondo Canada will suit up athletes in (Cadets Age 12 to 14, Juniors Age 15 to 17 up to the veteran categories O65) in both recognized and freestyle poomsae competitions.

Grandmaster Ricky Wu from Vancouver, head of the team will lead the team along with Master Seoungmin Rim, head coach, National Poomsae Team. “We are fielding a dynamic group of athletes who bring a mix of international experience and youthful energy to the competition mat,” said Master Seoungmin Rim goes.

“Our focus is clear – to win medals. But this will also be a key measuring stick for our elite athletes on the road to the 2019 Pan American Games, and for our next generation athletes in their continued progression. These athletes have all worked hard to achieve this honour of representing Canada and I know they will do the country proud.”

Master Rim (Calgary) is one of six coaches and medical personnel who will lead the team to Taiwan. He will be joined by Master Bhajan Mann (Toronto), Master Riseong Kang (Toronto), Master Hyun Seok Seo (Mississauga), Master Shelley Vettese-Baert (Edmonton) and medical professional, Marya Phan (Montreal).

The Canadians will be among more than 1,600 competitors from the world who will compete in the premiere event for Poomsae competition being hosted by the Taipei Taekwondo Federation.
