Taekwondo Canada – Taekwondo Canada is pleased to announce the team of athletes and coaches for the Roma 2018 World Taekwondo Grand-Prix (GP).

The Roma GP is the first Grand Prix event of the year and is scheduled for June 1-3, 2018 in Rome, Italy. This event is the first GP event leading up to the new Olympic cycle of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and serves as an indirect Olympic qualification event. This event will also be the first event to adopt the new Kyorugi rules which were approved at the General Assembly in Hammamet Tunisia this past April.

“We are excited to see our top Canadians compete this week. This is our biggest GP squad sent to a GP event,” said Jamie Dossantos, Taekwondo Canada’s High Performance Advisor. “Both Skylar and Melissa have eyes on the final four in Rome. They were very close to the podium in last year’s GP series and they are ready to come back for more.”

Andra Jerom and Hervan Mengue-Ngokho are the new additions to the Canadian GP team.

“The G4 event will help our athletes gain valuable international competition experience as they are working towards a spot at the 2020 Olympic Games. We are looking forward to some great results,” Dossantos said.
