Taekwondo Canada – Taekwondo Canada announced Wednesday that the National Championships will be split into two events this year. The first event will be the senior Nationals in kyorugi only, held on March 4-5 in Montreal, QC while the remaining events will be hosted at the University of Calgary from May 25-28. Players will be competing in poomsae and sparring for youth, cadet, juniors, senior, and para, although the Calgary event will not include senior qualification for World Championships.

“Para Taekwondo has been growing in popularity and with its inclusion as a Paralympic sport we are working hard to increase the competition level in our national events,” said Darlene MacDonald, Executive Director of Taekwondo Canada, “we look forward to seeing everyone at this event, which is once again being held alongside Judo Canada’s event.”

Taekwondo Canada has also announced that the 2017 Canada Open will be hosted in Montreal from September 28 to October 1 at the Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard.

“We attracted 822 athletes from 29 countries last year. It is a great feeling when you can compete with the best in the world at home.” Ms. MacDonald said, “I have confidence that we will do a great job hosting the Canada Open this year in Montreal. We want to welcome taekwondo athletes and officials from all over the world to showcase their skills and explore this city in its most beautiful season.”
