Synchro Canada – Ottawa, ON, June 21, 2018 – Synchro Canada supports and endorses the two important announcements for sport in Canada this week.

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities Announced Stronger Measures to Eliminate Harassment, Abuse and Discrimination in Sport

Synchro Canada is very proud to support and endorse the Government of Canada’s objectives of stronger measures to eliminate harassment, abuse and discrimination in the Canadian sport system

Synchro Canada, along with our provincial members and partners, clubs, coaches and volunteers, are already working diligently together to create healthy, respectful, inclusive environments for our athletes, and safe, welcoming workplaces for coaches and administrative staff and volunteers.

We were among the first national sporting organizations in Canada to adopt the Respect in Sport movement nationally as a mandatory training requirement and to take the CAC’s Responsible Coaching Movement pledge.

We will be working hard in the weeks ahead to review our programs, tools and policies to ensure adherence to the new measures announced this week.  We look forward to continued leadership and guidance by Sport Canada, and the support of its partners the Coaching Association of Canada and the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada, to collaborate and coordinate on sharing resources to enable all Sport Organizations across the country to succeed in achieving these important objectives.

ParticipACTION released its Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth.

The ParticipACTION Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth reveals some very alarming statistics. We know that for better brain health, all children and youth should be physically active on a regular basis. And that physical activity also improves cognition, brain function and mental health. Yet despite this, reportedly well over half of children from 3-17 do not receive the recommended physical activity levels for their age group.

Synchro Canada is pleased to announce that it will soon launch a new national entry level program designed specifically to introduce all five-to-nine year old children to basic physical literacy in an aquatic environment.   AquaGO! / ALLEZ à L’eau! will be available for Synchro Canada clubs across the country starting in September, and will encourage young children to enjoy movement in the water with a goal to developing the fundamental skills to enable them to participate in aquatic-based activities through their teen and adult years.
