Swim Nova Scotia – Halifax, NS– Swim Nova Scotia is pleased to announce that our annual Provincial Championship Swim Meet has been named the David Fry Nova Scotia Provincial Swimming Championships in honor of the late David Fry.

David was not only a remarkable swim coach, but he was an educator and administrator for many years. He was a Director-at-Large on the Swim Nova Scotia Board of Directors and the Canadian Swim Coaches & Teachers Association Board of Directors and an active Learning Facilitator for the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) for swimming.

Coach Fry was well-honored, winning 30 Atlantic University Sport conference titles during his 16 years as the Head Coach of the Dalhousie Tigers; AUS Coach of the year 20 times, Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Coach of the Year twice; and Swim Nova Scotia Coach of the Year twice.  He Coached Nova Scotia Hall of Fame swimmers Andrew Cole and 1984 Olympian Marie Moore along with Keira Aitken (who swam for the Bermuda National team at the 2004 Olympic Games) and David Sharpe (who swam for the Canadian National team at the 2012 Olympic Games).  David Coached with the Wolfville Tritons Swim Club, Dartmouth Crusaders Swim Club, Dalhousie University Tigers and the Acadia Axemen in addition to Coaching a number of Nova Scotia Provincial Teams, including the 1977, 1981 and 1997 Canada Summer Games Swim Teams where he impacted so many young swimmers lives’.

As a highly respected member of the swimming and coaching communities he has been one of the most influential people in Nova Scotia swimming, and left a positive impression on thousands of swimmers in Nova Scotia, and across the Country.

The David Fry Nova Scotia Provincial Swimming Championships will take place in Halifax March 2-5, 2017.
