Swim Nova Scotia – Halifax, N.S.- Aileen Feschuk of the Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club and Brett Liem of the Dartmouth Crusaders Swim Club are the first recipients of the newly established David Fry Memorial Bursary.

Both have excelled in and out of the pool; they have worked hard and reached the highest level of achievement in their academic courses. 

Aileen has excelled in classes where the academic demands are high and she always shows genuine interest in her education; she graduated from Citadel High School with Honours with Distinction.  She has excelled in the pool and has been a member of Nova Scotia’s 2013 Canada Games Swim Team, competed at the Canadian Age Group National Championships and the Eastern Canadian Championships.

Brett too has gone above and beyond in the classroom and has been a role model to his peers.  Brett graduated from Charles P. Allen High School and was on the Principal’s List (minimum average of 90%).  In the pool, Brett holds a Nova Scotia Provincial record, has been a member of numerous Provincial Teams and competed at Canadian Age Group National Championships, Canadian Swimming Trials and Eastern Canadian Championships.

Both Brett and Aileen will be attending Acadia University in September where they will continue to excel at their academic and swimming endeavors.

The David Fry Memorial Bursary has been established to remember David, his contributions to competitive swimming in Nova Scotia, and to encourage swimmers toward excellence.  David Fry left an invaluable legacy to amateur sport in Nova Scotia and in Canada, the legacy of his character; character built on commitment, intensity, discipline, effort, and desire.

Each year awards may be made from the Fund to promising, Nova Scotia swimmers to assist them to continue their training, education, and pursuit of their swimming goals as they pursue their University education.
