Volleyball Canada – September 12, 2016: The Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals begin tomorrow with a country quota match that will finalize the field for the 12-team women’s tournament. The event, which includes men’s and women’s teams, runs through to Sunday in Toronto.

The US $500,000 Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals is the result of 12 months of hard work by the players on the FIVB World Tour, and where the top teams per gender will go head-to-head for the title of Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals champions.

In the country quota match, Olympians Heather Bansley (Waterdown, ON) and Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) – who have decided to go in different directions after Rio 2016 – are playing with Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes, respectively. The match will determine which pair will play in the tournament. This country quota match takes place on centre court at 5 pm on Sept. 13.

All of Canada’s other beach volleyball Olympic teams will be playing in this tournament in the same combinations as in Rio. Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter begin play Wednesday at 5:30 in Pool C against the U.S. Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk play on Thursday at 3:30 pm against the second U.S. entry.

Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas begin play Wednesday at 2:30 against Brazil.
