Support Program Underway for 2020 Canadian Ringette Championships
December 2, 2019
2020 Canadian Ringette Championships - December 3, 2019 (Ottawa, ON) ….There are several different ways for businesses, organizations and individuals to support this dynamic sport when the 2020 Canadian Ringette Championships come to Ottawa next April.
The 2020 event, which runs April 5-11, will be the 42nd national championships for the sport. It will see over 40 teams from across the country competing in three divisions – Under16, Under19 and the National Ringette League (NRL) division (19+). It is expected the event will bring over 3000 visitors to the region. The 2020 championships will be held at the Jim Durrell Recreation Centre, the Richcraft Sensplex, and the Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex, with the gold medal games at TD Place.
Ringette has over 31,000 players on nearly 2,000 teams across Canada. Another 1,500 officials and nearly 8000 coaches are also involved, not to mention thousands of parents and families who are actively engaged with the sport. The 2020 event is being hosted by the City of Ottawa Ringette Association (CORA), with tremendous involvement from the other ringette associations across Ottawa, Gatineau and Eastern Ontario.
Co-Chair of the Local Organizing Committee, Ed O’Connor, and his Marketing team have identified several ways that businesses, organizations and individuals from across the region, and indeed across the country can show their support for this fast-paced game. “This is really the pinnacle event for Ringette players from across Canada, and we want to give everyone, along with their parents and families, a fabulous experience in our Nation’s Capital. We are looking for the traditional sponsor support from businesses, but also opening up the Name of the Game opportunity and GoFundMe page as ways that anyone can contribute to making these championships a success.”
Canada’s national Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC) is thrilled to be partnering with Ringette Canada to help promote both the sport of ringette and the Championships, as well as to provide key resources to participants. SIRC’s Manager, Programs and Operations, Kim Gurtler immediately saw the potential of partnering with CRC2020 as an opportunity to engage with the sport community and to spread the word on concussion prevention and management, especially with regards to women and girls in sport. “Ringette is a leader when it comes to the management of concussions in sport. SIRC is excited to work with CRC to continue to promote safe sport and to highlight its concussion prevention and management best practices.”
