Canadian Luge Association    —Harris to lead diverse and experienced Board focused on business development and winning medals—

CALGARY—Steve Harris has been reelected to lead the Canadian Luge Association’s Board of Directors for two more years.

Harris, who took over leadership responsibilities in 2015 has been focused on building a financially sustainable organization that will guide the nation’s top athletes to the international podium.

“We have made significant gains over the last 18 months despite a very difficult economy, but cannot stand still. This is a very critical time in the history of our program and we need to continue our pursuit of excellence both on the track and in the community,” said Harris, who was reelected during the organization’s Annual General Meeting held over the weekend. “We are in a good place both on and off the field play, but we need to continue to challenge ourselves further as a team if we truly want to achieve our goals of winning Canada’s first ever Olympic medal in the sport.”

Harris and his fellow Board members will continue to focus on two strategic priorities: business development and high-performance that will take Canada’s luge athletes to the next level over the next two Olympic quadrennials.

“It is simple, yet challenging. Success starts with having strong leadership, and a dedicated team of professionals behind the team on the track, who can deliver the resources athletes require to win,” added Harris. “We have elected a talented group of dedicated professionals that are focused on sharpening our long-term strategic plan and achieving our collective goals to ensure our athletes have the support they need.”

Three other members will also make a return to the Board. Zan Aycock will return as secretary for another two-year stint. British Columbia-based representatives, Jim Watts and Lucinda Jagger, will serve as Members at Large for two more years.

Three-time Olympian, Alex Gough, has joined the board as an athletes representative for the next two years.

Two-time Olympian, Tyler Seitz, continues as vice-president of sport. Ron Stitt will continue his position as treasurer.

Other directors at large include: Johanna Gouw; Justine Jones; Chris Wightman and Dan Doll.

The Canadian Luge Association is a not-for-profit organization responsible for governing the sport of luge across the country.
