Speed Skating Canada – Ottawa, April 26, 2016 – Following today’s announcement of Annie Perreault’s induction to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, which will be officially held November 1, 2016, in Toronto, Speed Skating Canada and the Fédération de patinage de vitesse du Québec issue the following statements of congratulations.

Susan Auch, Interim President of Speed Skating Canada

“On behalf of Speed Skating Canada and our entire community, I would like to congratulate Annie Perreault for her induction in Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.”

“Apart from her short track speed skating two gold and bronze Olympic medals, Annie Perreault is a true example of determination who battled health and injury issues. Following her gold medal in the relay event at the 1992 Olympic Games, she missed the 1994 Games due to a health related issue, but came back with a gold medal in the 500m and a bronze in the relay at the 1998 Olympic Games. Then, in 2000, she suffered an 8-inch gash on her left thigh, but was able to qualify for the 2002 Olympic Games as an alternate in the women’s 3000m relay.”

“Annie Perreault’s induction is another demonstration of the impact of our sport in Canada as she will become the 17th member of Speed Skating Canada to be inducted in Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. Once again, congratulations to Annie Perreault and all the 2016 inductees!”

André Beaulieu, President of the Fédération de patinage de vitesse du Québec
“On behalf of all members from the Fédération de patinage de vitesse du Québec, I would like to congratulate Annie Perreault for her induction to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. This honour for Annie Perreault is another example of the Quebec contribution in speed skating in Canada as she will join Gaétan Boucher, Marc Gagnon and Nathalie Lambert, as well as Dr. Jean Grenier, already all inductees in the Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. Congratulations! »
