Sport Law & Strategy Group- March 1, 2016 – Toronto – The Sport Law & Strategy Group (SLSG) will be hosting its next two webinars on March 9th and April 27th.

In the March 9th (noon EST) hour-long webinar, titled Team Selection: Tips and Guidelines for Selecting Your Athletes for Major Games, Steve Indig and Rachel Corbett will overview the best practices for carrying out team selection for Major Games events. Though the webinar will be relevant primarily for National Sport Organizations (NSOs) that are selecting athletes for the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio, all sport organizations (including clubs and provincial organizations) that select athletes for teams or events will learn useful information. Topics discussed in the webinar will include: selection policy drafting, discretionary authority, conflict of interest, decision communication, managing internal appeals, grounds for appeal, timeliness, affected parties, and revising decisions.

The April 27th (noon EDT) hour-long webinar, titled Legal Compliance for Ontario-based Sport Organizations, will review two important pieces of legislation with which every Ontario-based organization (including those national organizations with employees in Ontario) must comply. Recent updates to these two laws have created even more obligations. In this webinar, LeeAnn Cupidio (LLB) and Steve Indig (LLB) will remind organizations about the requirements of the Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA) and the Ontario Workplace Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and describe the new and forthcoming updates. Steve will also review “Rowan’s Law” – the upcoming concussion legislation that could impact sport across the country.

The SLSG launched the “Advancing your Game Webinar Series” in 2015 with topics including the Not-For Profit Corporations Act, Sponsorship, Human Resources, and Positive Change Management. Future webinars will feature harassment in sport and marketing your events and properties.
