Highlights from March 3, 2016

  • During a screening at the Healthy Athletes program, an athlete from Ontario was diagnosed with a lock toe, which has been affecting his ability to walk and run. Now that he’s been diagnosed, he will be referred to a specialist who will help fix the issue and he’ll be able to perform better and run/walk again.
  • A Manitoba cross-country skier found himself in a bit of a disadvantage when his aluminum ski pole bent during practice. The wax technician at Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club contacted a local company -Cycle Solutions who offered the athlete a set of complimentary  carbon fiber poles, a significant upgrade from his aluminum poles.
  • Special Olympics British Columbia athlete Marc Theriault added to his already large trophy case with a gold medal presented by Special Olympics pioneer Dr. Frank Hayden.
  • Speed Skater Cynthia Simmons, Special Olympics Northwest Territories’ only athlete, put on a show in front of speed skating legend Catriona Le May Doan by sweeping gold in her events.
