Freestyle Canada – Mammoth Mountain, USA, January 31, 2017 – Following the X Games in Aspen, Colorado and the World Cup in Seiser Alm, Italy, slopestyle and half-pipe freestyle athletes will gather this week at the Visa U.S. Grand Prix in Mammoth Mountain, California for the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup from February 1 to 3.

The Freestyle Canada athletes had a strong showing at the X Games, with Noah Bowman’s half-pipe performance and that of Alex Beaulieu-Marchand in ski slopestyle, earning each competitor bronze medals – Beaulieu-Marchand’s first X Games podium and Bowman’s second. Also noteworthy was the long-awaited return of Kaya Turski, seven-time X Games medalist, who missed the 2015 and 2016 editions due to injuries. The Montreal-born skier placed fourth with a landed switch double cork 10 that earned her the highest individual score.

A young delegation of skiers represented Canada at the slopestyle World Cup in Seiser Alm, Italy. On the men’s side, Noah Morrison placed fourth and his teammates, Mark Hendrickson and Max Moffat, placed 10th and 14th respectively. Sochi gold medallist Dara Howell was returning to competition and placed 6th.

A total of 24 slopestyle and half-pipe athletes are heading to Mammoth Mountain for the qualifiers on Wednesday. The final takes place on Friday, February 3 starting at 9:30 a.m. (PT).
