Taekwondo Canada – The 2017 Grand Prix Series will kick off this Friday (August 4th) in Moscow. The world’s finest taekwondo athletes will fight in eight Olympic weight categories, based on the June rankings. One country will have maximum two players to compete in each category, the host nation, will get one extra spot. A total of 220 athletes from 53 countries will be competing at this event.

This event will be the first Grand-Prix event leading up to the new Olympic cycle. Athletes will be competing for the Olympic ranking points, cash prizes, and sporting glory. The cash prize for the gold medalist in each category is USD5000.

Skylar Park and her coach, Master Jae Park, flew to Moscow on Saturday 29 July in preparation for the competition. This will be the first Grand Prix experience for Skylar Park who will be competing in the F-57kg category.  In the same category, we are expecting to see Ah-Reum Lee, the MVP of the 2017 WT World Taekwondo Championships, join the competition as well.

The Grand Prix Series contains four events, the other three events are:

Grand-Prix Series 2: September 22-24, 2017 @ Rabat, Morocco

Grand-Prix Series 3: October 20-22, 2017 @ London, Great Britain

Grand-Prix Final: December 2-3, 2017: Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire
