Swimming Canada – AUSTIN, Texas – Chantal Van Landeghem of Winnipeg and Dominique Bouchard of North Bay, Ont., produced top-five finishes on Saturday at the second stop on the US Pro Swim Series event.

 

In the women’s 50-m freestyle, Van Landeghem came within 0.08 seconds of the podium placing fourth in 24.92 seconds. Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden took the gold in 24.17, Madison Kennedy of the U.S. was second in 24.72 and Missy Franklin of the U.S. third in 24.84. Sandrine Mainville of Montreal was eighth.

 

In the women’s 200-m backstroke, Bouchard was only a half second from a medal clocking fifth in 2:09.70. Maya DiRado of the U.S. was the winner in 2:08.19, Katinka Hosszu of Hungary second in 2:08.63 and Franklin third in 2:09.21. Brooklynn Snodgrass of Calgary was eighth.

 

Eighteen-year-old Markus Thormeyer of Delta, B.C., was sixth in the men’s 200-m backstroke and Sydney Pickrem, a Canadian currently based in Florida, was eighth in the women’s 400-m individual medley.

 

Competition ends Sunday.
